What is the alternator output voltage, both with the battery connected and disconnected?

I am curious how much of your wiring has been changed or altered. To check the dash light operation you can check it by pulling the siamese plastic terminal from the rear of the alternator #1 and #2. white wire is #1, and a fat red wire is #2. With the ignition off position place a jumper wire from term. #1 and term. # 2. turn the ignition switch on and the light should go off, if wired correctly with the battery connected. If not the hunt goes on. #1 term. is a resistor wire from the dash light to the alternator that is powered by the ignition switch going to the dash light. It has anywhere between 2.5 volts to 8 volts (small white wire) the red wires should have 12 volts. When running, the alternator is energized there should be 12 volts on all three alternator terminals, with two 12 volt + feeds going to the light. light should be off.
