how much intake manifold hood clearance
Thank you very much for the detailed info. Felt like I just sat thru a grad level chem course. Never too old to learn. Good tip about keeping mix in a thin layer. 
So on seam cracks, just to make sure I understand, you are saying grind them out and 'glass them in? Somewhere a long time ago someone advocated redoing the bonding strip which would be tuff. [

It's MHO that grinding and glassing both theout side and the back sidewill hold better than the bonding strip ever dreamed of holding and will make the two seamed parts into one with no seam to move and crack later. Even if you just did the out side it will hold better and will last a lot longer and withstand much more abuse, as in bumps and dings. I know no one here abuses their babies,....well..not too much anyway.LOL!

300 rear wheel hp is a lot!
I had a 1998 Z28 that made 288 rwhp, and it ran the 1/4 mile at 13.65 sec, 103 mph. VERY FAST, considering I only paid $8200 dollars (US) for the car.
My whole goal for the car is to make about 350 hp at the crank. What are your camshaft specifications? I am shooting for a cam with 220-230ish duration with a lift inbetween .460-.480 at a higher lobe sep.
I found a Crower cam (part # 00242) like this: 220 intake duration at .050 / 228 exhaust duration, lift is .462 intake .470 exhaust and the lobe sep. is 112. AND Summit sells 64cc iron heads for $595!!! They said the price is going up $60 after Feb. so I will be getting them next week!
This setup should at least put me over 300 hp.
I want my car to be quicker than my Z28 was, and should be able to whip most other cars that people drive around Muncie, but I'm not crazy enough to find out

350hp at crank is a quotation given by this forum members...it may be something less but not so much. anyway I have a manual gear transthat seems to have 5% more transmission efficiency than an automatic trans. I have a 3.73 rear end ratio that gives my car very good acceleration. But I have a very mild camshaft ( I can't check it , too complicated) because my car idles very low ( 500-700 rpm) and very regular. I must say that at the end I'm happy of this because when i drive my car slowly in the town , I'm at 700-1000rpm in 3rd-4th gear : this enables me to save gas and have a less noisy , more comfortable car .
Even if the cam seems mild , the power comes out when I push, the tires spins easily ( also too much sometimes, I have to be careful). I can't give you any advise about cam's choice because I can't replace mine, so i got no infos about.

thats cool. A bone stock Chevy with 2,02 heads, edelbrock intake, and long tube headers will make 300 hp EASY (if not more), even with a stockish cam, so thats a pretty good, and anything more than 350 horse power (I think anyway) is useless to me because I would never do any serious racing. So I figure, why waste all the money (because if your car makes much over 350ish horse, then you have to start buying stronger transmissions, rear ends, and beefier suspension stuff) when all I do is loaf around town and take it to the dragstrip with my friends once every couple months!

I must admit that after a month of Corvette hard pushing ( I have a kind of personal drag strip- a long road with no other cars all around) I'm enjoing now much quieter rides...the weather starts to be nice andI ride the Corvette with removed Ttops just to relax ( but sometimes pushing a bit just to remember what's under the hood...)
Actually , I'm trying also to avoid possible mechanical damages and accidents...at least until I fix and check everything-I still have something to fix at the power steering, so I drive fast my Corvette just when I feel I can really do it. I drove also cars more powerful than my C3 , but the Corvette isnot an easy car , I havestill to learn...
