I heard that you could not order black but that you could order a Vette in prime and then paint it black. Anyone else ever heard that one? PG

Wedge, I was thinking the same thing. You would have thought that they would keep better records on such a sought after car. A lot of people think Ford's suck but they kept records of all their cars. you can get information right down to the minute each part was installed and who signed off on the car when it rolled off the line. when the records became a certain age they would sell them to places like Marti. I can't understand why the Corvette museum people are snobby. like you suggest...it's their job right.

As for receiving a car it primer...I have never heard that but with the right amount of money, that and getting one a special color is very possible. I owned a 1970 Torino when I wasa kid that was not supposed to exist but in fact did and had all the correct tags, plachardsand factory markings to prove it. It was special ordered by one of Ford racing's electrical engineers.

I'll keep looking. Cheers.

Although I have no first hand knowledge, I did hear that you could special order a Corvette in primer from the factory. Black was definitely not a '73 factory color.
