My 1986 right side headlight motor does not retract without assistance. I have replaced the main gear (which had a bad spot on it), but it still will not retract on it's own. It opens and turns on fine.

I hope someone can give me some advice!

 

Hey, sounds like the motor crapped out. It might be binding up or the motor is worn out going in one direction. You might want to test amp draw as it operates. If the motor draws more while trying to close it most likely needs help. Good luck

Both are of my '94, and I think your '86 has some parts that are different. I guess you'll find out when ya' get there...
