Default 1990 loss of power

I've been reading this forum for a year and have really enjoyed reading about issues and solutions. Now I have a problem I hope someone can shed some light on.
I have a 1990 L98 6 speed with 80K miles. Last week I went for a 40 minute ride and the car was running as strong as ever. I parked the car for about an hour and when I fired it back up it would idle but it had no power. I tried to drive it home but it would on accelerate. After it sat for six hours it fired right up and ran great all the way home.
Now I'm paranoid about getting stranded soI 'm not taking it very far.
The car has a new fuel pump, filter and the computer was replaced last year. A friend thinks it is a bad ignition coil.
Has anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks for any help

pd1955, I had the same thing happen to my 88', I kept on trying to drive with intermittent problem. I finally had to park it and work toward a solution. Found the converter had somewhat come apart and wedged itself sideways in the shell. Cleaned it out when I took the exhaust pipe off right behind the converter, fixed my problem. I had put a flowmaster Y pipe and muffler-tailpipe on some time back and with the converter gutted it is a little louder. But not objectionable. Who knows, you may or may not have the same problem but wouldn,t hurt to check it out.

Every once in a while I read about the various Vettes on this Forum about L-98s which have anywhere from 10,000 km up to, say, 50,000 km, and have trouble with this, or that, which tells me that these gorgeous machines are not driven very much over time. In my view, this practice will spawn problems whether large, or small. My 87 Vette conv't has just turned 205,000 actual kms(Canadian) and it's driven only during the Summer months (May-September), and then stored away. Same engine and transmission, and the usual two oil/filter changes during these months; one at the first month, and one aqt the last month before storing it. What I'm trying to0 say is: maybe these cars should be driven a lot more. It's nice to park them in the driveway, but it is infinitely nicer to enjoy them on the road while one can still drive. Just swome musing from a 68 yeard old Vette romantic. Please don't take any offence to this...

mypetu39,
If you are changing the oil/filter when you park it at the end of the driving season then why are you changing it during the first of month of the next driving season? If I understand you correctly, you are virtually changing you oil twice without driving it.

my vette was having this loss of power phenominon, mine ended up in the shop. it happened to be the max air flow sensor. it was giving my car bad mixture readings and cause it to go from 70 mph to idle, lol not what other motorists enjoy on the highway. i would trun my car off and then fire it back up and drive off. you might look into this. i know how it feels to have a powerfull car that cant do anythign but idle.

Once again, check the injectors. Sounds like a bad injector shut down one side of the car. There should be a few codes stored.

vacuum vacuum vacuum leaks use the propane torch method to track it down, but you sir have a vacuum leak 100% sure i am!!!!!
hey atleast its a cheap fix as long as you do it your self , and dont give up on the vacuum leak until you find it!!! , all the L98 have the same probs lol.

I finally got to the root cause of the problem and it was a bad injector. I decided to replace them all while it was apart (ouch$$$).
My mechanic also discovered the intake gaskets were installed improperly causing a vacuum leak.
The car has never run better!!

Thanks for the input
