Default Head Light Motor Run Time

My headlight motors continue to run after the headlights have rotated into place, either opened or closed. They run for maybe 4 to 5 seconds. Is this normal? The owners manual doesn't say anything about it. I have the GM shop manual and it doesn't say what shuts the motors off either. Thanks for your help.

Does both headlights have the same problem? Most likely stripped gears in the motor assembly. The motors shut themselves off when the current in them reaches a certain level. There is a metal gear upgrade to fix the problem.

Yes, both motors run the same time. Where can you get the metal gear upgrade if this is what I find? Thanks for the help.

Mid America Motorworks or Ecklers both sell the same repair parts< check both out for your application and price. GOOD LUCK.

Not sure what year you have but it sounds like your Delrin bushings have crumbled into obscurity..... I had the exact same symptoms, and sure enough with the help from this forum learned this was probably the problem. I just replaced them on my '96 CE this past weekend. Got them from Mid America for $8.00 per side. Not too hard to do, just takes time and patience, and be careful with your paint.....

Thanks to all. I'm sure it's the plastic bushings. The gears could be bad but the movement seems very krisp and the doors are tight. Also, found some white powder under 1 motor. Looks like a good winter job.
Thanks again.

THANKS to all again. I replaced the bushings and everything is fine now. The gears were in good shape. The first one took about an hour, the second about 30 min. Thanks again.
