LT1 Tune Up Question

LT1 Tune Up Question
Hello. I am really new to this site, and on top of that I have very little knowledge about cars. I have recently purchased a 1992 Corvette with he LT1 engine. I am wanting to upgrade the performance slowly, and I would love to get to 400hp. I have seen where many people stated that a good tune up needs to be done before performance chips, mufflers, ect. I am a pastor, and I have a guy in my church that is going to do the tune up so I ordered a cap and rotor from amazon that says nothing about the year. When it was delivered it said for a 95-97 LT1. Do I need to send it back and order another one, or are they all the same. It looks the same to my naked eye. I know my mechanic will know, but he won't be here for a few days, so if I needed to send it back, I can go ahead and do it. Any help here, or performance upgrade advice under $1,000 will be greatly appreciated!

Personally I would stay away from performance chips because they do a very limited performance increase and it's usually at the top end of the RPM band. Your money would be better spent to have a tuner redo your ECM. Look up Blackbear performance on the internet for one that can do that job.
Can't help on the distributor cap as I not familiar with C4's ignition.
