Performance chip
I have a 1992 also.
To make a long story short - without mods its a useless item. GM did pretty good with the stock chip. The only thing a chip can do for you if your engine is stock is turn the fans on sooner and/or firm up your shifts. You can waste money and get one from Hypertech (like I have). The Hypertech Thermomaster chip and 160* powerstat you can buy in a package deal from AutoZone or Hypertech's website. The reason I say get the 160* thermostat with the chip from Hypertech is because that Hypertech's chip has been known to make the fans run continously with a stock 180* thermostat. I called Hypertech and talked to one of their tech's and heconfirmed this. I believe they are in Memphis. If I were to buy a chip today it would be one that is custom tuned for your car. Hypertech is not, its a generic chip that is mass produced for all LT1 Corvettes.Get a custom chip from a burner like Alvin at PCMforLess.com (http://www.pcmforless.com/)but if you go this route and you mod your car later you will have to get another chip burned for your new tune. You really need to do rockers, exhaust, gears etc. before you get a chip burned. Also, there are people who actually lose performance by installing a generic chip especially Hypertech's. One othder thing about Hypertech - their chip onlyeffects performance at WOT. Unless your foot is on the floor your money is not doing anything. I found all this out long after I bought mine. One other thing, Hypertech used to also have their LT1 Corvette chips burned that raised the rev limiter to 7200 RPM's which on an auto is not a problem but on an M6 car you know a stockLT1 will not survive at 7200 revs. I guess this post turned into a long story after all.
