RE: shade curtain
I just read that today in one of the two links that I sent to you on John Nelson's Vette magazine web links... It takes a special procedure with a screwdriver.
Did you get the shifter **** retainer ring out? Was the pic ok? Can you find the shade removal segment on the link?
Maybe, maybe not. There's a good picture on the first link tho'. Maybe double check...

I read those articles prior to beggining the tear down, the issue of the old insulation is really skipped over. The book "101 Projects" states that the transmission insulation should not be removed but no other information elsewhere.

It has to be pulled out evenly. Have someone else pull from one side and you from the other. Or else you right in the middle. The thing works something like a window shade. There isn't a release mechanism. Ours wouldn't come out either until we pulled on it kind of hard and then it came out. It had rewound a little bit off center and got jammed up. GOOD LUCK!

Every things on hold. I stripped out the carpet and found two "huge holes" in the fiberglass pan on the drivers and passenger areas. I know what my next project on the PROJECT will be.
