Default A6 shifter in C5

Im about to change my C5 shifter but instead of just replacing the shifter ****, Im thinking of replacing the whole unit. I want to know if any of the forums members know what could be the disadvantages of totally changing out the shifter.

I hear that the MGW is a very good shifter. Some C5ers install the C6 Z06 shifter and others, super short-throw Hursts, BPP, and Ripper shifters, which are quite a bit stiffer.

I came up with a procedure to install my BPP shifter, but you can use it to install any brand:

Thanks Dave01 what I should have wrote was that the mod im about to take on is an automaitc shifter from a C6 in my 98 C5. And I was wondering what could happen other than not being able to down shift.

Ah, I misunderstood - sorry. I am stumped, then!
