Default oil pressure

I have a c-5 with 65,000 miles. No oil leaks. My heads up display shows 130 pounds oil pressure. My analog gauge shows 80 pounds oil pressure. What is causing the problem. Is it okay to drive the car?

Just my opinion, I'd say both gauges are giving false readings, for sure 130psi is way out of wack, even 80lb's is high. Put another mechanical gage on her and see what you have, cold and hot oil and idle & high RPM.

Hi Jerry. The analog oil pressure gauge is driven by the PCM serial data line and is 80psi full scale andprobably is overscale also. The HUD is digital displayed so may well indicate much higher values if signaled higher. Oil pressure sensor may be problem. A mechanical pressure gauge may solve the problem......... good luck........ cjs

If it reads high all of the time then it is the sending unit. It's a common problem. Unfortunately the sending unit is on the top of the engine all the way back by the fire wall on a C5.

It's a pain to replace. Look around here on the forums, I think that there was a thread on how to get to it by cutting a hole in the plastic between the wipers. The reason for cutting the hole is that some of the replacement units went bad after a short time and it made it a much shorter job to change the unit. There was also a thread on moving the unit forward. Good luck.
