Default passive anti theft problem

I've had my 98 for about three years now without a hicup....

However the other nght I got stuck in a bad rainstorm. My car was fine, but I parked it for a few minutes and it hasn't started since!! The battery is new and I checked to see if I was getting current at the starter.. I was not.

After checking for codes I got a code on the PATS. However I can't seem to reset it. I heard about this ignition "on" for 10 minutes then "off" for 10 seconds and repeat three times but this didn't work.

Is there anyone that might be onto something that is cutting out the ignition??? I hate to take it to the dealership and let them just swap out parts at my expense.

1. Did you see a "Service Column Lock" message? If so, you will need to have the dealership disable it. However, when this happens, the car will start, but will cut off when you reach a couple of MPH.

2. The dealership tech should "swap" at the dealership's expense, not yours. If they make a mistake, they should replace the new part with the old one without charge. Make sure you clarify this issue BEFORE they start on your car.

Good luck.

nah... nothing on the whole "colmn lock" problem. One of my friends was saying that its probably the immobilizer in the steering column... and that if it goes.. it won't let the key start the car. Do I even have an immobilizer in the car??? I dunno... its very frustrating. I guess I should just have it towed to the dealer.

good news it turned out to be really simple. The starter shut off relay was bad. GM part # 12193601 The part was 35 bucks and my baby is back on the road.
