Default Pulling Codes

Sorry everyone...I know I've read this in another post...but I can't seem to find it (naturally). I need to know the procedure to pull the DTCs off the computer. Apparently, you can't pull them with a code reader because you can get them on the DIC? I tried hooking my reader up that I have used on my 02 Tahoe...and it gets a "fail to connect" error. Thanks!

I have a used my scanner on quite a few vehicles. My corvette sometimes also has trouble connecting. I just keep wiggling my scanner at the plug in and it will connect. Just thought maybe it could be the same thing.
