Default Stereo Thoughts

Hello all:

I've just acquired a 2000 C5 with 31,000 miles on it. Its a drop top with a manual transmission, and very clean. I'm lucky to have found it.

The only thing about the car that I would change is the head for the stereo, since the systems of that vintage had no support for smartphones (Obviously. They hadn't been invented yet.) A standard 2 DIN unit won't fit in the dash, but Crutchfield sells a replacement dash cover (or whatever its called) that has a cutout for a 2 DIN head unit.

So here's my question for the hive mind: would replacing the head unit devalue the car? With the replacement dash cover, the installation would look factory, and I could save the original bits, which would allow it to be restored to stock. What do y'all think?

Scott

Welcome to the forum.

As long as you could put it back to stock w/o any extra holes or cuts, it shouldn't hurt the value.

I'm planning on a head unit upgrade too. With most of the DD bezels you need
to drop the A/C-Heater control a little and cut out section to mount the new unit.
HOWEVER if you go with the bezel from Vettenuts nothing of note needs to be cut.
Plus the bezel retains the cup holder top and door down below. Seems like it
should be easier to t=return to stock if desired.
