Out duels a Lam...,Porsche ,McLaren,...read about the ultimate speed test-the time it takes to reach 200mph. Vette was loudest and most race car like. Custom Viper was quickest to 200,but due to oil leak Vette could only do 1 run and it go even faster according to driver.Viper had about 1100 hp,Vette much less.....

 

It was a nice article - a lot of fun. I posted something in the General Tech section around August 4 on that test.

My take is the 'vette would have never out run the Viper even it it had had a second run -- the V10 simply has too much power-- hard to beat an additional liter and more of displacement. That Viper and its staged power system (limited HP below 60 mph to 800, etc.) is pretty impressive, Hennessey has done a very good job throughout and several of their cars have won shooouts recently (and never DNF'd). On the other had Lingefelter Corvettes are much more daily drivers than Hennessey Vipers.

As I said in my original post it's a bit worrisome that this is two years in a row where a Lingenfelter 'vette has DNF'd due to failures in a major car mag cover article showdown (last year one dropped itstransaxle casein either R&Ts or C&D's shootout).

I would have liked to have had my car there: it couldn't beat the Viper, i know, or the Ling vette (which has about 100 RWP than my car). But it could have taken the RUF Porsche for third place.
