Yes I have had some great cars in my life, the lord has been kind to me in many respects. I have a passion for cars in general, but , like many others I have had a few "problem children" regarding cars too. I once bought an 84 coupe that appeared to be virtually pristine at first glance. It turned out that nothing on the car was right. Everytime I drove the car was a religious experience-I was always praying I would get to where I was going, or get back home.

its interesting how some people believe their tastes are the standard. for some reason viper owners believe there is no better looking
car and the "few times per year it's seen, everyone looks". personally, the c5 z06 in red is the best looking car. the c6
is an attempt at improving an already perfect design. it did fail. i speak about cars less than $100K. although the newer vipers are good looking cars, i would like to see more of them on the road. unfortunately most owners never really put real miles on them. they sit in garages being constantly cleaned. if you see ones for sale typically they have extremely low mileage. similar to the ferrari group, who on average advertises approx 2,000 miles on their autos for sale. I DON't get it. enjoy the driving experience, not the labor to continually maintain an automobile in pristine condition and rarely drive it. HOORAY for vet owners we really enjoy not only the washing, but the driving ! and to conclude, if you really wanted to measure cost/benefit everyone should drive a hyundai. and for cost/performance there is no approaching the corvette. and hooray for the fact that every chevy dealer usually has at least one vet for people to look at and test drive.
ps. my intention was not to upset any viper drivers, but rather to show that tastes vary, but every owner should feel like their car
is the best and that it's admired.

 

Well you guys finaly got me to join this forum lol Now the reason.. This post about price..... hmmm how do I start with out making the originator mad at me........The Value is in the vehicle not the price that it sells for.. What car can you buy that does almost 200 mph for this kind of money????
You cant.. If your a smart shopper and realy compare value for the dollar the Zo6 is giving you the bang for the buck......The msrp will be around 75k Dealers are already getting bids for 20k over sticker.. And the dealership that I work at has 4 coming and they are already sold at 20k over msrp... SO that tells me the market is a happy camper and the folks who wont step up to a great value will wait like they did on the C5....And buy the C5 9 years down the road and claim they got a great deal.. LOL But wait the new Z06 is better than the c5 but hey you got a great deal didnt you? 9 years of waiting the wrong color And you got a great deal... MSRP... 9 years later...
I write this just because I hear this type of chat all the time and I feel sorry for this type of consumer...This Type of customer is the one who kills your resale value on your car..... Bottom line The Z06 isnt for everyone and never will be and when they do become common place we change the style to suit the needs of the real CORVETTE Lover....

Ok that is my 2 cents..... And oh yes I own a 2002 c5 and love it I will buy the c6 when my company will let me buy one lol :O) consumers first employees last :O) Have a great day all...

 

well, youre saying that theyre going for 20 over the 75k sticker, so for 95,000...you can get plenty of cars with similar peformance...for 95k you can have a viper that will run circles around the new Z06...dont get me wrong, i think that the Z06 is awesome, but with the sales prices of the viper dipping into the mid 70s range (at the dealer where i used to work we had a 2005 SRT10 that went for 76) and 20 grand in mods will get you in and out of hennessey or super viper systems with a TT setup...pushing 900+hp.

 

I sort of agree about the Porsches in general: you get what you pay for, at least if you are careful when you buy.
I just bought a new Carrera - actually drove a Turbo at thedealer, but frankly it was too extreme for what I wanted, and the extra $$$ was pretty extreme, too. I ended up getting the Tiptronic,too - it makes a really nice daily driver and a good weekend getaway car for my wife and me.

Not to diss the Corvette, but I really think of one, new or used, as a good starting place. The advantage the 'vette has over anything else is that there is so much aftermarket HP available at such good prices:a lot of what is out there doesn't work well and is cheap, but a lot really works, and sorting it all out is part of the fun. I have spentmore modifying my 02 Z06 than it cost new from the dealer, for which I have had a lot of fun, and for a total of abouty $110K, I have a car that is still completely civilized daily driver (air, CD, leader, suspension as soft as stock) but absolutely dominates anything stock from any manufacturer: 427 cubic inch C5R engine built by a pro Nascar builder, Procharger, headers, the whole nine yards and more. It will click off a standing start 1/4 mile on its street tires, with two on board, i 10.65 seconds at 135+ with me driving (my son can do considerably better).
To me, that is the big thing you get with the vette: it is a good basis for a great hobby and you can make it what you want.
I love the dry sump oiling on the LS7 engine, and the big 2.2 inch intake valves, that will permit a lot of upgrades. I'll probably get one (or at least a crate engine) someday. But the 11.25:1 compression ratio means serious supercharging is out without changing the pistons to lower compression to get real power.

Not a big fan of America cars. Family had a Dodge 7 passenger mini van b4 and that wasn't a good experience. From then on which was a long time ago we never got another American car. Dad thinks American cars are uncivilized and unreliable because from the previous bad experience with Dodge. Right now he drives a 996 TT modded and had a few fast cars before that too. Lately he seen the reviews of the Z06 and emailed me some Video as well. He is thinking of getting a convertible for my mom which is more like a Boxster S because she wants her next car to be a convertible. However seeing the price of the new Z06 is price pretty similar to the Boxster S maybe I should try to convince her to get the Z06 instead. My dad knows that the Z06 is the bang for the buck and maybe that will change his perspective. But one sh!tty deal is that GM doesn't allow test drive????? That is just plain weird. I mean we go into a Porsche dealership and we get to test drive basically whatever we want even in the Turbo and that is no problem what so ever. So what’s the deal with the Z06 if you know what I mean?

Really want to test drive one to know how it feels before we buy a car. Well actually we didn't test drive the Turbo because b4 that he had a 996 C2 and is a trade in.

Do you guys have any good suggestion as to how to convince my mom to get the Z06 instead of the Boxster S hehe?? Any comments welcome.

Seriously I think the Z06 is an awesome looking car.

PS she is driving a German sport car right now so driving manual isn't a problem for her.

 

Hey guy's, I'm not braggin, but all that is being said about the Z06 prices is true. It's way to high, but an opportunity presented itself to me, an I bought one, and picked it up on 11/04/05. When I see a 69' Z28 Camaro being sold on Barrett Jackson for $80K to $90K, I guess it helps ease the pain. The true is...it's a monster, and I'm having the time of my life!
