Default Service Column Lock

I have a 98 Corvette Coupe and it has been drivingfine with no issues. I got up this morning to go to the store andthe steering wheel was locked. The message was "Service Column Lock." I waited 10 seconds like the message said and the wheel is still locked. Is there anything I can check or do to get my car drivable? The service manual says have your car towed to the shop for service. I thought that maybe it was a fuse or something like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read the service manual that was posted...great information.But...I'm mad because the recall was done on my car by a GMdealership.I tried everything in the post but nothing worked. End result...I had my car towed to the dealership and they will call me in the morning to let me know exactly what's wrong with it.

Reading the other members posts, GM knew they should have done something sooner about this situation. I'm out $100 for the tow, and another $88 for the diagnostic. I will repost tomorrow and let you all know what's going on. Like I said before...no issues with my car at all until I wanted to go to the store the other day. This whole situation stinks!!!!!!!I'll keep you all posted!
