Default Steering Column

Hi all,
I have a 2000 coupe and due to the recall a year ago I had the dealer fix the steering column lock problem. Now, the steering column is locked again. I had my car towed to the dealer and their telling me the column is no longer covered under the recall.

My question is, if the problem persists then would it still be covered under the recall?

Another question is can the mechanic find out what the problem is without opening the steering column?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure at this point, but I think it is a programming issue with the body control module. I'll have to check TSB's at my shop when I get there and let you know.[]

According to the GM TSB #04006C dated Feb. 2006, the steering column lock plate should be removed and the PCM reprogrammed. If it is still locking on you, they obviously didn't remove the plate. Go back to them and ask them about it.

THANKS FOR THE INFO.

IT APPEARS TO BE WORKING AGAIN. AFTER MY CAR WAS SITTING IN THE SHOP FOR A WEEK THE STEERING COLUMN APPARENTLY BECAME UNLOCKED ON ITS OWN. IT'S BEEN WORKING FINE ALL WEEK, BUT I'LL TAKE YOUR ADVICE AND TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO MAKE SURE THEY DO TAKE OFF THE LOCK PLATE AND REPROGRAM THE PCM. I JUST HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE THEM ANOTHER WEEK.
