Default Carb clearance

Alright corvette world. I have an 81 and the quadrajet went out on me. So I want to replace it with an edelbrock 750 cfm carb. Everything is stock, so I know I will need an adapter for the square edelbrock flange to the intake manifold flange. And that will add some height. The question is will there be enough clearance for the carb, adapter, and stock air cleaner under the hood?

Pretty sure it won;t. Lay a short piece of 3/4" board on top of your air cleaner(with the quadrajet) and see if the hood will close. If it does you're in business,if it doesn't,back to the drawing board. Doesn't Edelbrock make a spread-bore 750?

They do. or did... but I went with a 750 cfm quadrajet for easy of install, sure fit and price (edelbrock $130 more)
