1992 unknow problem
Check your engine vacuum at idle, then raise the rpm to 2000 rpm and hold it. If the vacuum doesn't return to what it was at idle, then you have a restricted exhaust. (Catalytic converters)
I have read your post ric i have a 92 and have experienced the same problem. you have4 areas that can cause the problem you described.
1 fuel
2 exhaust
3 electrical
4 your distributor
the distributor is a nortorius unit wich is very tempermantal in my opinion i would think and bet it is the non vented distributo that has you all messed up
