84 vette cooling fan

Default 84 vette cooling fan

hi,i recently purchased my first vette,i was wondering if any one knows if the cooling fan stays running after the engine has been shut off or if the fan stays running until the engine is cool?the temp seems to skyrocket when i shut
the engine off.

I believe it's supposed to shut off when you turn the car off. Increases in coolant temperature are completely normal when you turn the car off... the coolant is still reacting with the hot motor and cooling it off, but the water pump and all that isn't turning, so you have no coolant flow. Now, if it spikes bigtime, maybe there's a deeper problem there, but just a small increase is totally normal.

Now, with that being said, you should wait for one of the tech's here on the site to respond... I could be wrong on this, but thought I'd just pipe up quickly in case it was useful to you....

Ecklers have relays that kick on at a much lower temp. the kits are around $40, well worth the investment.

as a foot note it's the temp switch from Ecklers that has a modified temp threshold, it's $40 too,
