Default RE: cooling fan

From my expereance with my 88 there are 2 , well actually 3, fans. The big one behind the radiator is controlled by the ECM, the two small ones infront of the radiator are controlled by a switch on the drivers side of the engine around #5 sparkplug. My main fan wasn't coming on untill over 220deg. so i put in a 180deg stat and 195 deg. if I remember right, switch for the "auxiliary" fans. I have however recently put in a hyper chip and a 160 stat and that chip turns the "main" fan on at around 180deg. The car now maintains a temp of around 167deg. unless the obvious like sitting in traffic or what ever.

I have read in cat. like ecklers that someof these switces will control the main fan. But in my1988 factory repair and service manual it states that the main fan is controlled by the ecm and is not adjustable. Unless someone knows of a missprint I found this to be true because when i changed the prom the main fan on/off temp changed also.

My 92 with Hypertech chip and 160 stat work the same way.

My oem fan kicks perfectly at the temperature range of around 210 degrees... rest you should better ask the manufacturer for the exact figure...
