Long trip mechanical concerns
I recently accquired a 92 C4 LT1with 85,000 miles on it. It is very clean and runs very well with no obvious problems of faults of any kind. I'm planning on takinga 3,000 mile mostly freeway/highway trip soon and because I don't have any history on this car I'm wondering if I should it on this trip. I'd like to know your thoughts on this and what if anything I should be on the look out for.
The miles would not concern me -- if well cared for its only well worn in, not even nearly worn out -- but the age (15 years) might. If you don't know any different, I would replace all the radiator and heater hoses, etc., have all filters replaced, etc., and check it over carefully for wear, signs, etc., then go on the trip. .
Bought our '92 in October.
86K on the clock at purchase.
Seemed to have no obvious problems, like yours.
Indeed, it has been 100% reliable since then.
Wind it up and drive it on the trip!
Luck to ya!
I envy you the trip. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Hello,my friend!! It's prudent for you to be cautious about any potential problems your car may have, especially if you're planning to take a long trip. However,is your car up to spec??The reason I ask is I have a '96 LT-1 thatI bought 3 yrs ago.It had approx. 83,000 miles on it,but nonetheless,it runs like a top.In sept. '05(if I remember correctly!),I DROVE my car from Dover,Delaware to the Corvette Museum in Kentucky, had no problems at all and got about 26.7 mpg for he whole trip!!Now it has almost 109,000 miles and still runs great.Of course,I maintain my Vette religiously,I change the oil every 4500 miles,I did the whole tune-up thing right before it got to 100,000 miles(plugs, wires, tranny service, water pump,Opti-Spark,radiator flush, well, you understand)everything needed to keep my car on the road.My point is,service it,my friend if it needs it,and enjoy it at all times. There's nothing like a Vette,I say.Long LIVE THE C4!!!Your friend always,Joe.
Our Corvette has proven to be EXTREMELY reliable. Surprisingly so, actually. We routinely hop in ours and take it out on 500 mile day-trips with nary a second thought..... unreal for an "exotic" 20 year old car, if you ask me.
