power steering problem
I've been having an issue with my power steering not working on start-up, so after reading about a few similar issues on the forum i decided to replace the pump. No luck- if anything it's getting worse, Am I looking at replacing the rack? Suggestions?

RE: power steering problem
What is happening is the internal seals on the rack are hard and bypassing pressure when cold. After the fluid heats up and in turn heats the orings and softens and enlarges them, thet swell and seal and you have p/s. In other words, YES, you are looking at replacing the steering rack. Good Luck![8D]

RE: power steering problem
Mech259, I have in my files a Technical Bulletin from General Motors which addresses this issue. I'll give you the website below for your reading pleasure. I have replaced the power steering fluid with the fluid mentioned in this Technical Bulletin and experienced very little difference. I'm up here in Ontario, Canada, where the temperatures during the first, and last, of our Corvette "Summers", are somewhat cooler than down South. Let me know when you have read this Bulletin if it seems "right". Thanks.
