Hey Blueshark and Navy, What are y'all doing up so late. I can't sleep. Reading all this makes me want to build a big motor. I don't know what I'd put it in cause all my mess is running great right now. Maybe I'll find a project. HB

13.8 to one compression

Umm .. Tilton still make them hi-torque big block starters? Yer gonna need one
That motor is gonna seek 7k rpm in a hurry .. highly recommend rev limiter of some type
Sounds like a great set of peices .. can't see needin laughin gas at all .. there just isnt much around that can stay with a well built Rat if ya can put it to the ground

Honestly the '66 is my fav. I'm not too crazy about the way the headlight and taillight bezels are on the '67, but I don't rag them, I do still like them. And to me, the '68 and '69 are HUGE cars. Still love and respect them, I just love slinging a high-revving small block into a corner, I absolutely love small blocks, but love the look of a big block. I'll post the Chevelle once it gets back, we're having it painted a '69 color, Garnet Red, and I must say, it is gorgeous. Only thing left is the trunk and hood. It'll probably be running by early to mid Feb. I hope so, I miss it. Yeah, I'll post pics of both my car and the Chevelle once the Rat is Back.

we build a lot of 54s at war and i have to agree with every body, you have to get your horsepower out of the valve trane these days, 9.5 to 10 is about all the compression you can run without turning the the timeing back so far that you lost what you gained. not to mention the fuel consumtion. the aftermarket heads and high tech. cam profiles available these days more than make up for the compression limitations and you dont have to worry about fuel additives that dont work anyhow.

I only built one BB. and that was my 396 in my old Chevelle...if you wanna do it unique...Forged bottom end, 9:1compresion buy some new AFR heads and boost the living **** out of it, F1 Procharger, 8-71 Weiland, or even build a Turbo Set up. If it was me budiling a big single turbo set up on a built BB would be INSANE! i need to find that video of the 1200HP 502 with a turbo(on pump gas)
